Lukas Winiwarter's diploma thesis deals with the classification of topographic 3D point clouds and was nominated for the "TÜV Wissenchaftspreis" which will be awarded on 18th of November 2019.

Topographic 3D point clouds are recorded from the air. Classification is an important first step for the extraction of spatial information, e.g. for the creation of maps. The diploma thesis uses a neural network to separate topographic point clouds into semantic classes. For the first time, a point cloud of this type is transferred directly to the network, i.e. without pre-processing.
